This unusual item is a treasure from Wendell's past and is called a barroom fence or cage bar. They were used in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to secure and display bottles of liquor in taverns. This particular piece (27" x 96") is from the Ballard Tavern on Jennison Road and was donated to the WHS by Joan Afferica. It will proudly be preserved in our museum.
