This phoyograph, date unknown, shows the Baptist-Church-turned-Town Hall in the center with the large Otis Chittendon house to its left and the once-upon-a-time Forbes Store with its snow-covered porch roof. The Baptist Church was built in 1819 and moved to this location in 1846; the other two houses are 1853 reconstructions of two buildings that burned to the ground in 1851. Chittendon was a store keeper who owned both the large house and the store next to it. Joseph Forbes purchased and operated the store for a few years around 1870 before returning to his home state of Maine.
